Muhammad Anwar Rashid

Founding Member and Former CEO

Mr. Anwar Rashid holds a Master’s degree in Economics from University of Karachi. After his postgraduate qualification, he got associated as a Lecturer with the University of Karachi in the Department of Economics. He continued as Lecturer for three years from 1979 to 1982. He left the position of Lecturer to join OPP in 1982. 

He joined OPP as a researcher and evaluator in the field of social and physical development. Based on his remarkable efforts he was promoted to Joint Director OPP in 1986. He got associated with OPP-OCT in1995 and started actively participating in operations and management of the OCT. Technical support, developing different products and strategies to outreach communities for spreading microcredit are core values which he added in the past and continues to perform for the organization. 

He is also in the Board of Governance of OPP-KHASDA and OPP-RTI. He also sits on the Board of Organization for Participatory Development (OPD), Soon Valley Development Program (SVDP) and SAIBAN.

He is one of the founding members of the Pakistan Microfinance Network (PMN). He in addition of being the Vice Chairman of the PMN Board has also been a member of two subcommittee of the Board i.e. Audit Committee and Policy Committee. He has also been a Guest Speaker in events organized by LUMS, LEADS, NIPA and University of Karachi on many occasions to deliver his thoughts on different topics of community and social development. Mr. Anwar Rashid has authored and co-authored a number of publications such as:
  • Health Survey of Orangi and Thikri – 1991
  • Working with Community – Principals and Methods – 1992
  • Microfinance and Rectification – Evaluation of Lane Sanitation – 1992
  • Micro Enterprise Credit Program – As a means of empowerment – 1995
  • Partnership in Organization – Low Cost Sanitation Program – 1995
  • Khajji Cooperative Society (a partner organization of OPP-OCT) – 2005
